Theism
In a broad sense, theism is simply the belief in at least one God. Typically, there is only one God, and the religion is based off of their relationship to the universe. They determine that God is active in the world, including personal lives. The three most dominant religions under this belief system are Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.
The term theism was first used by Ralph Cudworth, who said that they were "strictly and properly called Theists, who affirm, that a perfectly conscious understanding being, or mind, existing of itself from eternity, was the cause of all other things". Atheism is the exact opposite of theism.
There is a personal God that created the material world. Reality is both a spiritual and material thing. They believe that the universe will indeed have an end. Humankind is God's unique creation; this makes us personal and individual because we are made in "God's image". We learn about God through revelations, as he reveals to us himself and the truths of the universe he created. Things we hold to be moral values are just the opinion of a moral being.
In some theist religions, specifically Christianity, it is believed that there are angels. Angels are workers of God, people who have been sent to Heaven and been rewarded. Archangels are high class angels who have direct contact with God. There are said to be seven, each with a different job title, however after the original three, there is constant debate as to the remaining four: Gabriel, the messenger angel, is said to have announced the coming of Christ to Catholics as well as the one to influence Muhammad to write the Qur'an; Michael, the angel of releasing fear, is also the leader of God's army and protector of the people; Raphael is the angel of healing.
